Connolly Leather have ceased trading after more than 125 years of supplying quality finished leather to customers such as the British Royal Family, Rolls Royce & Bentley, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Lotus to name few. Many contracts used their leather over the years such as The House of Commons, The House of Lords, The British Museum, QE2 as well as many prestigious hotels & buildings around the World.

They had an established reputation for supplying quality leather but also after sales products such as renovation kits & Hide Food. As the colour on most upholstery leather are basically a flexible coloured & clear lacquers on the surface, this would wear or scuff & eventually the porous hide itself would show through. Connolly Leather soon realized that these coatings could be reapplied to bring back much of the initial appearance of the leather. So was born the name Connollising.

Stephen Merrett & Stephen Nash worked for their renovation department for many years, restoring leather upholstery to the contracts mentioned above among many others. In 1988, these two experienced leather restorers decided to start up their own leather renovation business, far away from “Connolly Leather’s” main customer base around the South of England & moved to Cheshire. Two of “Connolly’s” main renovation department members leaving together did not go unnoticed; a meeting was arranged & an exclusive license to use the “Connolly” name & products as a renovation service was offered. The only condition was that we would agree not to resell the lacquer in “kit” form as “Connolly Leather” already had an established market & customer base for leather renovation kits. These conditions we were happy & proud to accept. It was an arrangement that worked well for nearly 14 years when to everyone’s shock, Connolly Leather Ltd. were no more!

Fortunately for ourselves, the chemical company, which supplied “Connolly Leather” with their lacquers for renovation, found us & offered to supply direct. People who have purchased their preservation & renovation products over the years are only now realizing they are not there anymore.

Although we are a renovation service, due to present requests from Connolly customers, Leathercare Renovations have made a very comprehensive leather renovation kit containing all the products used in our professional renovation service. The are made bespoke to leather samples sent for matching & contain products previously never been available to the general public! Our attitude was; who would know more about supplying leather restoration products than people who use them on a daily basis?

We hope this will fill some of the void left from Connolly Leather's departure & go some way to keeping their memory & leather alive. We can now supply their world famous Connolly Hide Food/Care Cream which is now being produced under an exclusive licence to Hide Care Ltd.

Connolly Leather were incredibly protective of their name & reputation for quality when still trading. Particularly companies using the term Connollising to promote their own leather renovation service. There were only ever two independent companies officially granted the right to use this term. Both set up by time served members of their own renovation department- we were one & the other was Benchmark Leather Restorations. Any other company using Connollising for promotional purposes are simply exploiting the term as there is no one there to stop them. Be warned!
